Abstract |
It is argued that Pakistan needs to concentrate on Basic Sciences and Mathematics, rather than on the final stages of application, and on teaching rather than research. Reviewing the educational system and the various wrong turns taken in the early times of development and the problems faced in trying to correct for the errors, it is pointed out that our most pressing economic need is competent human resources, which is what the universities should be concentrating on, and that competence requires sound basics in the subjects taught.
