The notion of a generalized complex structure has been introduced by Nigel Hitchin. Generalized geometry has further been developed by his students Marco Gualtieri, Gil Cavalcanti, F. Witt among others and has recently attracted the interest of many
mathematicians and physicists. In this talk I shall discuss some basic notions of generalized geometry, starting from the notation of a compatible complex structure on a real vector space to develop understanding of generalized complex structures on vector spaces with some simple examples.
